Document management software developer Invu has teamed up with PracticeWEB to offer accounting firms secure online file exchange facilities via their practice websites.

The integration takes advantage of PracticeWEB’s latest Landscape system to link files in the PracticeWEB secure document exchange with Invu’s paperless office system.

PracticeWEB is a companion company to AccountingWEB within the Sift Group and is in the middle of a transition to the programmer-friendly Landscape edition. Around half of the 1,000+ PracticeWEB sites have made the (free) switch, and the other half should do so by the end of 2012, said PracticeWEB operations director Jonathan Mann.

The Landscape system has an application programming interface that makes it easy to connect to other applications. Invu and PracticeWEB have a lot of mutual clients who have been asking for secure document exchange facilities to link their websites and document management systems for some time.

“It was definitely driven by clients,” Mann said. “It’s taking us into a new realm of back office systems.”

Mark Palmer from Invu UK continued: “If you’ve got a document management system within the business and a portal for sending files safely to clients, joining them up is the logical thing to do.”

Invu adopted a “works with” approach in tandem with PracticeWEB, which is entirely consistent with the company’s roadmap for working with other sectors and applications such as IRIS and Salesforce.com, Palmer said.

With the launch of the latest version of Invu (v6.5), the service will go into pre-release testing during February, once the Self Assessment deadline is out of the way. The roll-out to PracticeWEB clients will start 5-6 weeks after that, Mann said.
