PwC audit partner Andrew Ratcliffe is to be ICAEW’s next vice president and will formally take office on 5 June.

Ratcliffe will now be lined up to take over as institute president in 2015, marking a return to the ICAEW top table for PwC.

Past PwC presidents of the ICAEW include partners Graham Ward (2000-1) and Peter Wyman (2002-3), who was succeeded by KPMG's David Illingworth in 2003-4.

In recent years, however, the role has been held by smaller firm representatives such as current president Mark Spofforth.

Ratcliffe first became involved in ICAEW in 1998, chairing the audit and assurance faculty in 2001. He became chair of the technical strategy and ICAEW's board in 2005.

His career, spanning 36 years, includes auditing large international public companies in a variety of industries. Ratcliffe has also worked on MBOs, IPOs and expert witness support and has held membership of the UK and Global board of PwC which he chaired between 2001 and 2005.

Current ICAEW president Spofforth welcomed Ratcliffe to the vice president role and heralded his "skills and qualities" as attibutues that would be called upon over the next three years of change within the accountancy profession.
