Sage leads the way in early SSA voting

Sage 50 Accounts continues to hold sway as the UK market leader in accounting software, according to early feedback from AccountingWEB’s Software Satisfaction survey.

In terms of votes cast, the long-time market leader currently leads the accounting/bookkeeping category with a 23% share. ClearBooks, a web-based rival to Sage’s flagship desktop product, registered an early surge with 14% and QuickBooks is in third place with 11% of the sample.

How users rate their applications will not be revealed until the full results are published in October. However the initial responses are noticeably down for previous Software Satisfaction Award winners KashFlow (3%) and FreeAgent (3% - plus another 2% who use the IRIS OpenBooks version).

Aside from ClearBooks, Xero registered the biggest share for a cloud accounting system with 8% of the category votes, putting it alongside VT Transactions (9%) and Sage Instant Accounts (7%).

In the mid-market financials and ERP category, Greentree has the highest vote, 18%, ahead of Pegasus (15%), Microsoft Dynamics (9% combined) and Exchequer (8%).

Among payroll software suppliers, Brightpay has attracted nearly half the votes cast in that category. Only Moneysoft (12%) and Sage Instant Payroll (11%) have achieved double figures so far.

IRIS has the biggest overall share of the specialist tax and practice applications sample with just over 20%, ahead of Keytime (17%) and Sage (9%). Dedicated products that are coming through strong in this sector include VT Accounts, which leads the accounts production category with a 24% share, and TaxCalc with 14% of the tax software vote.

Pegasus has the highest proportion of business intelligence votes, WebExpenses leads in expenses management and Lindenhouse and Invu are neck-and-neck in document management - but the voting in these categories lags behind more mainstream applications.

Because of these irregular voting patterns, the Software Satisfaction survey is not intended to reflect actual market shares for suppliers. But the more people who take part, the more accurate the picture will become both for user numbers and the all-important Software Satisfaction Award ratings.

If the applications you use have not been mentioned (or even if they have), please take just a few minutes to record your views in the online Software Satisfaction survey.

The results will determine the winners of the Software Satisfaction Awards, which will be announced in online ceremonies in October. The information gathered will be compiled into software buyer’s guides for AccountingWEB members and benchmark reports for participating suppliers.

Your vote gives you an opportunity to tell suppliers what you really think of their products and will play its part in deciding who wins the profession’s most authoritative and prestigious software awards. One lucky respondent will win £1,000 in Amazon vouchers, and five runners-up will receive vouchers worth £100.
