Software Satisfaction Awards: 2012 winners

The top people’s shop Harrods was buzzing on Thursday night as hundreds of software industry figures gathered for the annual Software Satisfaction Awards.

Run by AccountingWEB’s parent organisation Sift Media, in partnership with the software trade association Intellect, BASDA, the ICAEW IT Faculty, and online survey specialist ClickTools, the SSAs are so prestigious because they based on the responses of real software users.

This year 10,691 surveys were completed, covering 18 software categories. These were the winners (and nominess) in the categories of most interest to AccountingWEB members:

Accounting & finance (corporate) winner: Corero Business Systems – Resource Financials
Nominees: CaseWare, Purchase Control, Bottomline Technologies – WinBacs, Advanced Business Solutions Financial Management

Public sector specialist nabs the big prize from under the noses of some very august corporate players.

Accounting & finance (SME) winner: KashFlow Software
Nominees: FreeAgent, Crunch Accounting, ClearBooks, Intuit UK – QuickBooks, Sage 50 Accounts, Xero
The annual showdown between KashFlow and FreeAgent is reaching Ali-Frazier proportions; KashFlow has retained top spot again this year, leading a pack of serious cloud contenders.

Payroll (corporate) winner: Personal Audit Systems – P11D Organiser
Nominees: Qtac Payroll Manager, Pegasus Opera 3/II Payroll and HR, EARNIE, Sage 50 Payroll, Advanced Business Solutions Payroll, SnowdropKCS Payroll

A return to the top spot for specialist P11D tool, with honourable mentions the six more fully featured payroll programs shortlisted in this category.

Payroll (SME) winner: The Payroll Site
Nominees: 12Pay Payroll, Sage 50 Payroll, Qtac Payroll Manager, Pegasus Opera 3/II Payroll and HR, IRIS GP Payroll, QuickBooks Payroll

Another victory for cloud contender; the future pattner of software satisfaction could be taking shape.

Tax winner: TaxCalc Professional
Nominees: BTCSoftware, Keytime Tax Professional, Digita Personal Tax, IRIS Accountancy Suite
Fifth win in a row for Acorah Software.

Practice management winner: Xero
Nominees: Relate Software DRIVE; Iris Accountancy Suite
This one is a surprise; until a few weeks ago, Xero was seen mainly as a cloud bookkeeping program. But the strong vote in this category suggests it is already winning over practitioners.

Paperless office (corporate) winner: Version One Document Management
Nominees: Lindenhouse Software, Bottomline Technologies - Transform, OneFile, Open Print
That makes it three for Advanced Business Solutions subsidiary Version One, but some interesting new names made it through to the shortlist.

Paperless office (SME) winner: Draycir Spindle Professional
Nominees: OneFile, Receipt Bank, Version One Document Management, Lindenhouse Software
Having started life as a Sage Line 50 companion, Draycir repeated its 2010 victory in this category.

Reseller of the Year winner: Enhanced
Nominees: AMABusinessSystems, Trax UK, Datel Group, Profile

Judged awards: PwC systems auditor Chris Potter won the ICAEW IT Faculty Prize and the low cost Raspberry Pi computer won BASDA's Theo van Dort award.

Confused - why isnt Xero even nominated in "accounting & finance?"

Its head and shoulders above both kashflow and freeagent.

Ditto under payroll, not even a nomination for MoneySoft?  It knocks the spots off SAGE and Quickbooks payroll.

Is it one of these awards where you have to pay to get the nominations or something and they didnt bother entering?

Reseller of the year & Xero nomination

Hi Barry,

We've just stripped out the Accounting categories from the awards for the Aweb community. The reseller category has now been added to this article. For the full list of winners and nominees in HR, CRM and other non-accounting categories, take a look at our sister site BusinessZone.co.uk.

Ireallyshouldknowbut - apologies for missing out Xero from the list of nominees in that category. As you can see on the SSA website they were originally nominated - our article has been amended now.

Best regards, Rob

I'm not surprised Sage doesn

I'm not surprised Sage doesn't figure in the latest sofware awards. We've just upgraded to 2013 (Version 19) and the most noteable thing is the drop in speed. It's now no longer an option to upgrade a data set in working time because it takes so long. We're now forced to do it overnight which is a bit like going back to the eighties and batch processing. It's just not practical to do it any other way unless we can find a spare machine. To make matter worse we have a multi company multi user version and if an upgrade is taking place it tends to lock out anyone else trying to load V19. Nice one Sage!
