HMRC is changing a new form for tax refunds for pension savers after admitting that it was “badly worded” and causing confusion, the Financial Times reported.

Earlier in May, HMRC said it would update the form as soon as possible, after pensioners complained that the document issued in April was misleading.

HMRC apologised to a 71-year-old for causing distress after it advised her to use the form to reclaim several thousands of pounds in overpaid tax when the tax form said she was ineligible to use it due to her circumstances.

A lot of savers were expected to have their pension pots taxed by their pension providers at emergency rates, unless the customer had given a P45.

One customer told the FT that her tax was deducted after she took cash from her pension but the form made it impossible for her to claim.
