The TaxCalc iPad mini sweepstake winner is...

Brendan Theron, client services manager at accountants Ward Williams won the Apple iPad mini on offer in TaxCalc’s 2013 Budget sweepstake.

TaxCalc asked AccountingWEB members to guess how many times the Chancellor would say the word ‘tax’ in his Budget speech.

Despite the Chancellor occasionally losing his voice and choking after a sip of water, he managed to get the word ‘tax’ out 54 times, down from 2012 when he said the magic word 97 times.

TaxCalc product manager Alex John picked Theron’s name out of a hat at the end of her day with AccountingWEB on Wednesday.

Surrey-based Theron, who appears on AccountingWEB member under the synonym minimunky, was pleased to win the coveted prize.

“I use my iPad mainly for business purposes and the iPad Mini is really portable. Although, my little one is keen on them too, she’s only 18-and-a-half months and knows more than I do,” he said.

“It was a random guess though, to be honest. I know the Chancellor mentions tax a lot and I thought he would focus in on that. So I just picked a number.”

Theron, who works for a partnership with offices across the home counties from Weybridge to London, said his Budget highlight was the new childcare scheme, which provides working families with 20% of childcare costs.

“As I’ve got a little one, that change was the highlight for me. I would have preferred a decrease in fuel prices rather than alcohol, though,” he said.
