Just because you don’t have an accountancy qualification (yet) doesn’t mean you cannot aspire to practice excellence.

We asked participating firms to put forward trainees and unqualified staff members who deserved wider recognition and thanks for their efforts on behalf of firms and their clients.

Scott Drewery of Aston Shaw: Scott Drewery has already specialised in a very technically demanding and influential role within Aston Shaw’s payroll department, where he manages a team of two younger trainees. Having guided many clients through RTI filing during the past few years, he sees himself as an advocate for the firm who can attract and build long-term relationships with new clients.

Darren Hahn, Nordens: While still in a junior position Darren Hahn of Nordens has applied his technology and analysis skills in complex areas within the firm and among its clients. He exhibited a hunger for practical and intellectual challenge that signals a bright career ahead as a leader in practice. The judges noted Hahn’s ability to compute complex ideas and challenges and convey it in simple, comprehensible language.

Micaela Blackshaw,  Umbrella Accountants: Micaela Blackshaw had a clear vision for her future career path, down to the exact role. Micaela demonstrated she has a diverse skill set and strong leadership credentials and in the words of her colleagues, “takes on the less glamorous tasks and owns them completely”.  This praise was supported by glowing client testimonials.
