Tweetdeck UK has been dissolved after directors failed to file accounts with Companies House (CH) for eight months.

The UK subsidiary of Twitter, based in London, defaulted on the submission of its annual accounts, after CH started an action to strike off the company in January.

CH has sent directors responsible for filing annual accounts letters, requesting nominal fees for the non and late filing of accounts.

In December 2012, Twitter itself received late fees from CH for not filing accounts on time, but later did so.

Twitter confirmed the app would continue to be available to users and Tweetdeck’s assets and product are integrated into Twitter’s existing operations.

“TweetDeck the product continues to thrive as part of Twitter, but the old TweetDeck company has been dormant for some time, with no outstanding liabilities; hence our agreement with the move to dissolve it,” a spokesperson said.

According to the social media company, TweetDeck is an inactive “shell” company. TweetDeck has been part of Twitter some time, following its acquisition in 2011.

The app was originally founded by computer programmer Iain Dodsworth in 2008 and sold to Twitter in a £25m deal.

Twitter’s UK operations are undertaken through a Dublin-based parent firm, Twitter International Company.

TweetDeck is still being developed, including the Android, iPhone and Air versions being shut down this week to make way for an improved desktop version.

Nine developers work on TweetDeck in London and Twitter is currently recruiting more.
