My wife enjoys reading ‘normal books’ on holiday. I like to read books about business. Does that sound familiar?

I have only four and a half years experience running my startup, marketing to prospects and leading a team so I learn a lot from other peoples’ experiences. I pick and choose the ideas that I like and the ideas that inspire me.

In no particular order, here are some of the books on my reading list:

  1. Maverick!, Ricardo Semler
  2. Steve Jobs, Walter Issacson
  3. Return To The Little Kingdom, Michael Moritz
  4. Business @ The Speed Of Thought, Bill Gates
  5. Anyone Can Do It; My Story, Duncan Bannatyne
  6. Losing My Virginity, Richard Branson
  7. The Warren Buffet Way, Robert G. Hagstrom
  8. Soros: The Life, Ideas And Impact Of The World’s Most Influential Investor, Robert Slater
  9. Investing Against The Tide, Anthony Bolton
  10. More Joel On Software, Joel Spolsky
  11. Rework, Jason Fried & David Heinemeier Hansson
  12. Delivering Happiness, Tony Hsieh
  13. Founders At Work, Jessica Livingstone
  14. One Click: Jeff Bezos And The Rise Of Amazon.com, Richard L. Brandt

Have you read a good book that you would add to this list?

I have little time for reading ...

... when I do it is for escapism not self improvement - it would be pointless - you can't improve perfection :o)

rework

I enjoyed rework - lot's of small snippets of ideas, you won't agree with all of them but there are some good tips in there, particularly re. hiring people, and the fact it's written by guys that come from the SME startup perspective is more relevant to me than many of the other 'big business' books I come across.

I haven't read Steve Jobs biog yet, I guess I need to get on that one...

also

Tim - if you haven't read it yet "The Snowball", the biog on Warren Buffet, I thought was brilliant, really enjoyed it. Quite big though!

Yeah, I've read that too. Thought it only fair to include one Buffet book in the list and his other one is a lot thinner!
