AccountingWEB arrives on Google+
It’s been a staggered start for Google+. First, membership was restricted to invite-only for a lucky few; next, personal pages were made available to everyone in June; and finally, after a tumultuous relationship, Google last week unveiled its brands and business pages.
Google partnered with Fox News, The Muppets and Barcelona Football Club for the launch. By adding a brand to their circles, users can receive information about Sandro Rosell’s recent interviews in their ‘stream’ (similar to Facebook’s newsfeed) or browse photos from The Muppets World Premiere album.
Other features include ‘Hangout’, a live video-chat application through which users can interact, and ‘Sparks’, which connects users displaying similar interests.
Prior to the official launch brands were eager to get involved in the new network, forcing Google to release a video in July asking companies to stop creating Google+ profiles for brands and business until the launch for businesses was officially rolled out.
Google launched the official pages on 7 November but despite the initial rush from the likes of Cadbury, Burberry, Labour Party leader Ed Miliband and even HMRC, it seems no one quite knows how best to utilise their brand, with many taking to the site to ask their users for advice. Cadbury even went so far as to bribe users for suggestions with its own selection of chocolate.
AccountingWEB has joined the hype and launched our own Google+ page, and like many brands and businesses, figuring out how best to use it. What kind of information do you want to receive from AccountingWEB on your stream – articles, Any Answers posts, links to interesting discussions – and how much interaction do you want from the page?
What is your experience of Google+ and what suggestions do you have?
