Aweb relaunch: Same, different, changed

After the ceremonial ribbon has been cut on launch day, you will recognise many of your favourite features on AccountingWEB - along with quite a few changes.

All your favourite features like Any Answers, all the latest news and community items will be showcased in the top navigation bar.

The top site navigation list will be split into these 6 key sections:

Tax

Practice

Business

Tech

Any Answers

Community

Hot topics

The link to our Blogs page no longer appears at the top of the site, but have no fear. Blogs have not disappeared, they will now be grouped under the Community section on the navigation bar.

Most of the site’s commonly used features will remain, but like Blogs, they may appear under new headings. But some other features, unfortunately, won’t be available on launch day.

When the new AccountingWEB launches in May, we want you to enjoy a simpler, more straightforward user experience that delivers the content and interaction you want quickly and without fuss. The improvements we have made are based on user research and feedback, but in some areas we were not able to make the necessary improvements in time.

Don’t be too alarmed if you can’t find an area available on launch. Just because it is not available for launch doesn’t mean it won’t come back later.

For example, to enable us to get the new site up and running quickly, Discussions and Opportunities have been put into suspended animation. They’re still there, but will not be visible while we carry out further research and exploration to adapt them for the new site architecture.

We will be explaining over the coming weeks how some of these popular features have changed, and what you can expect them to look like.

If you didn't get a chance to complete our user survey or have any additional ideas please feel free to comment below.

Why not get rid of Blogs but keep Discussions. The majority of blogs are just reams of pointless advertising. Discussions has far more relevance.

Featured blogger meaning

Does featured bloggers section have any meaning? If so what? Besides kudos for the blogger. Is this what is intended?

For me, it has no meaning at all since it is not clear what is Sift's intention for featuring them. Are they the best of the crop? If so, say so. Also, some have not posted a blog for a long time. Why are they still on the list? Are they sponsored?

Please  state clearly where blogs are sponsored. Flying Scotsman blogs were a good example, where Sift failed to make this clear. Was this intentional?

Apart from just a few blogs (they are good), the blogs section is just a way around to get some free marketing under the guise of useful information for accountants. It is anything but..

Just do not allow any self-promotional links (like firsttab.co.uk) on blogs.

Featured bloggers are just that – the bloggers who we choose to feature. We shift around the blogs every now and again, with Satwaki Chanda (who has contributed a few articles for us) and FD on the Edge being two recent blogs we’ve inserted in to the featured mix.

But the featured blogs are by no means the best bloggers (I’m a big fan of your blogs, FT).

The blog section went down hill when the CEO left.

There are now only a handful of blogs worth reading. I enjoy the blogs by Glennzy and Kent Accountant but they are few and far between.

AWeb really needs to clear the crap out of this section of the site. Some members have complained about a recent blog, but it's still there.

Hi Tom,

I enjoy reading your blogs too (honest)!

First Tabs blogs are entertaining but that goes without saying.

Blogging isn’t for me. Nothing interesting happens in my life. In 12 months, all I would have been able to blog about is changing my car and a French Bulldog puppy called Gordon.

Kind Regards,
John

Would Gordon like to start blogging?

I get the impression from Gordon that he's not interested in blogging. His hobbies seem restricted to playing, eating, sleeping and just sitting staring at you.

What a cute dog!

Hey MrMe89, that dog of yours is adorable. I fully endorse a blog by that little fella.

Logic

Thanks Richard. It was thinking behind the decision of featuring them that interested me. Since I do not get it. There are some redundant featured bloggers. It has been some time since they have blogged.

In the end, understandably, this aspect is subjective. It just does not have any meaning for me aside from the kudos aspect.
