A big success

The Meals on Wheels deliveries turned out to be a great success for our team.  We took it in turns to drive the van and push the carts round, and all met up afterwards for a pizza lunch.

No 2 found himself being invited into one old lady’s home for a cup of tea and a chat.  “She’s lovely and she’s really lonely,” he said afterwards.  “I’m going to go back there after work next week to dig her garden.”

Mrs Dragon, who was spotted rubbing her back after her turn pushing the cart, said she’d been cleaning an old gentleman’s kitchen.  “It was filthy.  They should send people round to do it for him regularly,” she fumed.

And BD said he’d come near to having to climb a tree to rescue a cat.  “I was sure it wasn’t stuck, but this poor old lady was really upset, she thought it couldn’t get down, she was crying and she wouldn’t eat.  I’d got as far as offering to get a ladder when this cat found its way back down!”  That did sound a relief – BD was, as ever, immaculately turned out with his shoes beautifully polished, and the idea of him shinning up a ladder and getting grass stains all over his clothing made both Mrs Dragon and me laugh afterwards.

It wasn’t all good news, though.  On CD’s turn to drive the van, he saw a speed camera flash as he went through it.  “I wasn’t even speeding,” he said crossly.  “I hope that camera’s not faulty.”

Back at the office that afternoon and later, the atmosphere was fantastic as people went on swapping stories and talking about whether we could help the people we’d visited some more.

Our charity awayday is hereby declared a success!

Congratulations

Sounds like a great time was had by all, plus you made a positive difference to some older people in your community.

The best bit for me was hearing people wanted to go back and help a bit in their own time.

That shows you've got some proper staff who can be relied on to do a good job.
