The Community Editor's farewell

In late 2012, I came to Bristol from Ireland to work on one of the most vibrant, active and engaging communities in the accounting and finance sector in the UK: AccountingWEB.

It's been a wonderful two-and-a-half years working on this site and I am sad to leave. However on Friday 15 May, I am moving to AccountingWEB’s sister site, BusinessZone, and will take up a new post as the site’s Small Business Editor.

When I first took up my post at AccountingWEB, I can still remember the feeling of excitement. In the following weeks and months, I proceeded to throw myself into learning all I could about accountancy: its members, its quirks and its software.

And aside from these technical topics, I've learned a lot about the accounting profession as a whole from my time spent engaging with the AccountingWEB community.

I've found accountants are one of the most intelligent, diverse and interesting groups of professionals out there, despite mainstream stereotypes.

This is all in addition to being immensely kind - looking out for one another when times get hard, and doing their bit for charity in every way they can.

It's been a brilliant few years, and I would like to thank everyone in the AccountingWEB community who made my time here thoroughly enjoyable: the members who brightened my day, met with me at events, lent their expertise to articles and who were a pleasure to interview and chat with. And definitely not least of all, the wonderful and dedicated AccountingWEB team, who do an amazing job and have taught me nearly everything I know.

I’ll definitely be back every now and again to say hello. As accountants and small businesses work so closely together, I'm sure there's plenty more we can talk about and share ideas on.

And please, please feel free to keep in touch with me too. I’m not only here, but I’m on Twitter at @rachpower10LinkedIn and always happy to chat on the phone/via email (PM me for this!).

As they say in Ireland, slán go foill, agus go raibh míle maith agat.
