Community Manager's Corner: Signatures
Since recently joining the AccountingWEB team as Community Manager, I've been keeping an eye on the biggest trends and most popular queries among our members. In these posts I'll be exploring topics that can potentially help us move forward, providing small tweaks to our community policies as well as any tools & resources that users may find useful. The focus is on providing you, the members, with the best possible service and it's your feedback that can really help us investigate and understand the best options available to us. In each post, I'll be inviting discussion and asking for your comments to take back and improve the site for everyone. I should add that, while I can't promise major changes from every topic covered, your comments and ideas are always appreciated and, with them, we can gain a greater understanding of AccountingWEB and consider ideas to make it even better.
This time around, I've been looking into the subject of user profile content and self-promotion. While our firm but fair approach to advertising and sharing personally promotional links remains in effect, we understand that members' ability to associate their profiles with legitimate business expertise and resources is an invaluable tool, especially when sharing advice and experiences. To this end, we'd like to know what you think about the kind of content that can be included in comments and user profiles. Preventing spam is still one of our top priorities, ensuring everyone can enjoy a secure and reliable sharing environment, but to what extent do you feel this applies? Do you feel you should be allowed to refer to your own company or professional website or Social Media feed at the end of comments and posts? Would the option to be able to reference your own services, where relevant, support your advice or clog up comments with self-serving material?
Conversation on AccountingWEB is reliant on both our editorial content and your key expertise and we'd like to know if you feel that added recognition of your abilities that could be provided by this would be a feature or policy you'd like to see. Following your comments, I'll be sure to post regular updates to give you a better idea of how we make decisions that affect the whole community and invite you to take part in the conversation.
