Counting down

My 6-year old grandson is showing worrying signs that he may have an aptitude for accountancy.

Like most kids this time of year he has an advent calendar. He just has trouble with the numbering system.

He has decided that the doors should count down the days until Christmas, so he started with 24 and will open door 1 on Christmas Eve! The first few days of December were OK but I had to spend ten minutes with him over the weekend writing up a conversion chart for him so he knows which door to open on which day.

It may seem odd, but it's entirely logical to him! I foresee a successful career in finance ahead of him!!

Perfectly logical

It's a perfectly logical way of looking at it, but if it bothers you then why not buy him a second calendar? That way he can open one the logical way and the other the conventional way to please you. Everyone's happy and if both have chocolate then even better!

Filing

I remember, at the start of my career, trying to get my head round why accountants always filled lever arch files in reverse order.

To me (at the time) the documents should run in a forward sequence - like pages of a book.

Needless to say I am fully converted to accountant think these days - but still remember this when new people start.
