Demand please, that's my budget plea!
March 20 - I just had a call from our local paper asking what I wanted from the budget. Apparently I'm a 'local business opinion informer'. Which was news to me!
My answer was simple. I want more demand please so that more people go to our customers and buy more so they want to spend more with us, and in the process create more work and so more jobs.
They wanted me to talk about 50p tax and I said it was a non-event for me and I suspect most in our community. And it certainly won't change our business planning whatever happens on that issue. But creating more demand would have a real impact.
And do you know what? As a result I suspect I won't be quoted. But I said what I really feel. And I'm not holding my breath for tomorrow.
