An end to room hire costs!
October 10 – The shareholders seem like a mundane issue these days. If they expect growth and rising income they’re a pain. If they’re arguing, dying or issuing demands they need attention. If they’re at risk of losing at all they’re a threat. Right now they seem grateful for a continuing income stream, which we can offer.
It’s certainly not going up. I have no intention of suggesting it should: that would place undue pressure on us at present when I need to reinvest in the business to preserve essential resources. But it has to be said that they still do need a little careful nurturing every now and again.
The result is that in the midst of all the current fun AM, East and I are planning a presentation to them on the current state of play in the business. And that requires clear thinking about the messaging we want to deliver and what we want to do. That’s the real reason for doing this to be honest. It’s great to win work as we just have, but we also need to be sure what we really think as a team. So today has serious time put aside to discuss this, out of the office.
Oh, and let’s not think out of the office is grand. We go to a great cafe a few miles away where we grab a table, can get wi-fi if we want it, have all day breakfasts for lunch (well, AM doesn’t since she has an altogether different profile to East and me) and get, as we have discovered, lots done for next to nothing in cost at the end of the day. Tea is £1 a mug, and if we buy one an hour each they’re happy. Sod room hire costs, I say.
