There has been an immediate benefit for me as result of weight loss achieved so far. I am finding walking up a steep hill so much easier. Further, overall I am just feeling better about myself.

I do feel hungry on fast days. What keeps me going is the fact I can go back to eating what I want the next day.

Following the fast day, I have noticed my body has got used to eating less. I have no idea what triggers my food consumption to increase on day 2 following the fast day.

It was a week where my food consumption really was off the scales on non-fasting days. This included a lot of bread. Bearing this in mind, I am pleased with this week’s loss.

The change I need to bring is to reduce my food consumption to a more reasonable level on non- fast days. Having said that, I am not sure if  I will stick to 5:2 diet if I try and hold myself back on non-fast days.

Overall I am really happy with the 5:2 diet (still early days though). It would be great to know how you are doing on this. I understand you may have a different weigh-in day, please post when you are able to?

My Experience.
I have been on the Fast/5:2 diet since the beginning of he year, and these are my experiences and observations.

I have lost two stones so far, and am aiming to lose at least another two. My clothes are getting loose to the point where I will have to start buying new ones soon - something I don't do that often. I eat one meal of 600 calories or less on a fast day at about 5pm, and I like to consider that my fast starts at about 8pm the previous evening. Ideally, I would break the fast with breakfast the next day. I don't take any particular exercise apart from normal walking, climbing stairs, etc.

Weight loss is faster early on in the diet, and slows down - it seems harder now to lose an extra pound. However, I am determined to press on, not only for the wight loss but also for the other health benefits described by Dr Moseley in his book and TV programme. I have wondered if it helps to avoid eating later in the evening (not just on fast days) and having a good long gap between evening meal and breakfast the next day. I have also thought about introducing a third fast day on a temporary basis in order to give myself a boost.

I don't particularly worry about what I eat on non-fast days, and on fast days tend to stick to salads, which provides a fair quantity with few calories. I don't eat a dessert.

On fast days I sometimes get a slight headache, and in the winter I seemed to feel the cold more than I normally would. I don't really struggle with hunger on fast days, but I do occasionally think about how nice it would be to have a snack! One thing I have noticed is that my "dodgy knee" is virtually normal now. I used to experience some discomfort climbing stairs, but I can't remember the last time I noticed it.

Overall, I am pleased with the diet, although I would always like to lose weight more quickly - but this way I feel I can keep it off. When I get to a weight I am happy with, I will go to one fast day a week in order to maintain it. I like this diet because I don't have to think about it every day, and it has given me better results than the Weightwatchers points diet I tried some years ago (and after which I put more weight back on than I lost). And there is always the next day to look forward to when on a fast day...hmm...ice cream, steak, lasagne, coq au vin...chocolate...

Best Wishes,

David

I'm not on the 5:2 diet,
I'm just counting calories. I started 11 weeks ago and I've lost 14lb. I've had my birthday, 2 weeks holiday and several summer bbqs in that time so I'm quite pleased with that!

Only 16lb to go to my goal ...

I'm not sharing details of my actual weight or height as a lady never tells!!

I also started running in January usually do 6/7km per week - not a lot but it all helps.
