“My client has 3 Chargeable Event gains – I have entered them in the software but box 5 for number of years is blank even though they were all held for 10 years.”

Further nooks and crannies of the SA100.

Another recent query – you can’t say we don’t keep things current!

The note governing entries on the SA100 for multiple chargeable event gains are quite clear:

“If you have made gains from several, non-identical policies then enter the total amount of the chargeable event gains in box 4 where tax has been treated as paid, and in box 6 where tax has not been treated as paid. Do not use box 5 or 7; instead, provide the following details in box 19 on page Ai 4:

  • a description of each policy or cluster
  • the amount of the gains
  • the number of complete years
  • whether tax has been treated as paid.”

Obviously in many other cases it is quite possible that the number of years involved is different for each gain and therefor the fact that in this case each period is actually the same is just a misleading co-incidence causing the user to think the entry was missing...

Once again we ask lightly if anyone else has been confounded by this same issue either in Keytime software or any other….? One week we will get someone to put their paw up. :)
