Getting closer to getting my practicing certificate

Good news on the accounting front, my training records have finally been accepted by ACCA. I now need to get a continuity in practice agreement sorted and then I’m good to go.  I think this will take some time too although I did have one company who said they would be happy to do it but they had some deadlines to meet so they would get back to me.  That was in April, I guess I ought to start chasing them up. Otherwise I will have to start looking for another firm.

The other thing I was looking at was websites and what I would want to put in it. As it goes most accountancy websites are general run of the mill. Not looked at that many but how much different information can you really put?  I guess when I’m looking for information about anything, I always want to know about the main person or people so I was thinking of concentrating on that when I start on the website.  When I read other peoples personal website, I go between thinking how big headed they are and how amazing they are to have achieved so much through so much difficulties or at such a young age etc.

The final thing I need to think about is whether to become a limited company or remain as self-employed. I’m not sure how well it will all go so maybe it’s better to remain self-employed until or if it picks up.  But then I think if I’m getting a website and logo, would it be too hard to change it afterwards?

On the daughters’ front, things are getting a bit easier. My two girls will play together for a while now.  The toilet training is getting better, but unlike some people who seem to be able to do it on a weekend, it seems to be taking longer for my daughter. After talking to some other mums who have also had problems, I’m not so worried about how long it’s taken me now and she is getting better at it.  The little one is getting ready to crawl but still won’t sleep through the night not that the heat and thunderstorms are helping!

Go limited

If you're going to go limited at some future point do it at the start. Otherwise the admin of having to change everything isn't worth the hassle.

On the website front I'd say don't go for one of the standard websites - design your own or get someone to create it for you (you can always filch ideas!). I've got an AccountantWebsmiths one and it's fine, no worries on having to update it or anything. But it does cost money every month and most of it really isn't necessary. Plus I'd have all the stress if I decided to ditch them. Keep to a few simplish pages with the stuff potential clients really want to see. And make sure you're aiming at the right type of clients too - sounds obvious but there's a temptation to appeal to everyone at once and it doesn't work! Take your time to think about it and get it right from the start.

I can't offer suggestions on toilet training as my experience is limited to training a dog (not that easy either) and 2 cats (soooooooooo simple - there's the litter tray, use it, end of). But at the end of the day it's like anything - you'll get there eventually and everyone is different.

Toilet training

You're right not to worry about toilet training. The nerve connections from "down there" to the brain take time to establish; some kids are wired up pretty early, others have no hope of control until much later. Be patient, don't stress your daughter (or yourself!) over it, it'll happen when she's ready.

Rob.

If you have the time (with kids??!), do your own website on Wordpress. It's not too difficult because there are themes and plugins you can download. It will look unique, and it will save you money when setting it up and when it needs updating. You can easily add technical content from the likes of Websmiths to your own website if you want to.

We've had a lot of good feedback about ours - CloudBook Accountants Newcastle

As for kids, we were lucky and had our eldest potty trained by the time the youngest arrived. We had cheap potties in almost every room as a reminder to use one (rather than nagging)! We resorted to controlled crying with both. Seems to have worked quite well so far, although our youngest still usually wakes once, it's better than every 2 hours!

Where do you live we could be each others cover I am in the same position.... Potty training dont worry too much you will stress yourself out, ever so often just put her on the potty and make it a game.... sing a song etc.... and she will start liking the idea of it....

Terry nappies ...

... modern ones are far too comfortable (there is no incentive) - not to mention the environmental impact of "disposables".

They soon learn - If the itchy rash doesn't teach them, being jabbed with a great big pin will!.
