Holiday mess up

Way back in January, I decided to be really organised about my holiday plans. I now work in a small company (for the MD) so couldn't just assume I could take any week off. I knew I should liaise with his plans.

So, I carefully wrote an email asking for the week commencing 28th July off. This fitted well - was not a payroll week, month end only just starting.

My boss then arranged his holiday for week commencing 21st.

So - when my wife told me last weekend "We are going on holiday in a week" I was a bit suprised.

Cue an awkward converrsation with my boss - where I felt that I had to offer to cancel at least some of the days to cover the office. (We employ about 30 staff, so a reasonable size operation.)

Fortunately, whilst not being a pushover, my boss is a reasonable chap - and so we are both going to be away next week.

I will check email and call in each day - just to check there are no issues.

The good thing, for me, about smaller firms is that you feel involved - and thus keen to help out - rather than simply feeling 'required'.

I am normally one for leaving the phone at home on holiday - but will gladly make the exception this time seeing as it was my fault.

As it is only UK, I expect I will keep up with Aweb too!

The Boss

How can you forget your holiday is due and need your wife to remind you?

It sounds like your boss messed up, not you, so I think your holiday should not be disrupted by work. You need a rest and a break the same as everyone else.

The OP thought that his holiday was w/c commencing 28 July and booked this week (and as a result, the MD booked a holiday for the w/c 21st July).

However ..... the OP's holiday was actually booked for the w/c the 21st (the same week as the MD's holiday).

Thanks

If that is the situation then I did misunderstand the OP. I thought it was a problem with holidays overlapping rather than the wrong date being booked.

What a bummer. :(

Back home now, managed to keep in touch daily via the wonders of wifi in site clubhouse.

Hope everyone else manages to have a good summer holiday, and enjoys as good weather as I have just had.

Good weather for farmers @Kent?
