Ice ice baby

BD’s son nominated him to do the famous/infamous Ice Bucket Challenge last week.

When he mentioned that at our Monday morning team meeting, No 2 said, “Yes, my cousin nominated me too!  If I do yours, BD, will you do mine afterwards?”

“I think we should make it a team event,” said CP.  “Let’s all do it together – one after the other!”

And so it was agreed!

On the day, we all brought in wetsuits, or shorts and T-shirts, and a bucket and a towel each.  Mrs Dragon, who I’d expected not to be too happy with the idea but who seemed to have decided to enter into the spirit of the thing, brewed up a huge cafetiere of coffee and produced a tub of home-made biscuits for afterwards, and she even filled up an extra bucket “in case anyone cheats and doesn’t do it properly”.  No 2 went to the back door of the local pub for some bags of ice.

Out in the car park, we stood one behind the other in a long line and took turns to pour ice water on each other’s heads – filmed by Jack the security guard from the next door office.

I can’t of course share the video here!  But there were some very amusing moments.  Mrs Dragon got an ice cube stuck down the front of her T-shirt and yelled like a banshee.  No 2 had brought in a larger-than-average bucket and BD was unlucky enough to be standing in front of him, receiving a tremendous icy dousing and coming out with language that would have made a sailor blush.  I wouldn’t have thought BD knew all those words.  And CD lost hold of the handle of his bucket, which nearly resulted in CP ending up with the bucket over his head too, like Miss Hardbroom in The Worst Witch.

Afterwards there was a stampede for the toilets to get dry and dressed again, and Mrs Dragon’s biscuits were pronounced “delicious”.

“Can we do this again for Children in Need?” asked No 2 excitedly.

CP threatened him with Mrs Dragon’s spare bucket.

Mrs Dragon got an ice cube stuck down the front of her T-shirt and yelled like a banshee.

So there is some justice in this world, after all.

More seriously:

1) I hope people are finding the time to actually get some work done at this establishment- recent blogs have had me wondering.

2) I'm amazed this new craze seems (at least for now) to have passed the H&S zealots by. I read this morning of a girl in my locality needing treatment for dislocating her jaw after over doing the yelling and screaming bit....

good on you

And good on Mrs Dragon for embracing the challenge!

Ignore misery-guts above :-)

FYI coops 456, some blogs out there do really have an "ignore" facility, maybe you've put ideas into the head of some moderator sitting in AW Towers.

If you want me to expand, I was hinting, from what's previously been said that Mrs D seemed glad to dish it out but can't take it, especially the odd ice cube in an embarrassing location.

As for work, I'm looking forward to the FC's place knuckling back under ASAP and eager to surmount their next "crisis" - nothing wrong with saying that, is there?
