No!  Not Christmas.  Absolutely not Christmas.  That started in September in my local Tesco at least…

It’s October and time for the Minimum Wage rates to change in case any of you may have forgotten this annual event.

The rates changed on 1st October 2015 to:

·                     £6.70 – the main rate for workers aged 21 and over

·                     £5.30 – 18-20 year old rate

·                     £3.87 – under 18 but over the school leaving age

·                     £3.30 – the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship. Any other apprentices are entitled to the NMW

But from April 2016 don’t forget the new kid on the block:

National living wage

From April 2016, the national living wage will be £7.20 an hour for workers aged 25 and older. The minimum wage will still apply for workers aged 24 and under.

When I last checked (today) the UK has the eighth highest minimum wage amongst the 34 OECD countries (down 2 places from 2013).

And who’s top?  – The Australians.
