Friday 22 May

It was not a good day. Most of the day was spent on dealing with IT issues. My cursor kept flickering all the time. It is was distracting to work. I took the desktop to the repair shop in our office block. They could not see any problems with it.

They did not connect the desktop to the net. My blinking cursor only happens when connected to the net. There is some software in the background trying to do its thing. I have to wait till Tuesday till the problem is resolved.

My employee had issues with Xero and HMRC filing of VAT returns. It is his last day today! I will be doing accounts and tax returns after 2 years! I will be slow and I will make mistakes. Software will help me.

Thursday 19 May

I cycled 8 miles to Clear Books Tick and Bash today. The ride  was not a pleasant experience, I got lost. The return journey of 8 miles was easier but tiring. Next time, I will probably take the tube.

It was good to meet people off line. Kent Accountant, looked nothing like how I imagined him. I am sure, I looked nothing like some people pictured how I would look like.

Really tired because of my long cycle ride.

Wednesday 20 May

Posting from my mobile phone. Please allow more than usual errors.

Okayish day. My employee finishes with me on Friday. In a reserved state of panic.

Had a long potential client call last week. I felt I was being integorated. Afterwards, I thought it was a competitor trying to suss me out. I was wrong. He agreed to sign up today. What better client than a freelancer.

Just do not like reading about accountants need to wake up and move away from compliance work. It is them who are not in the real world! They need to wake up. Have they heard of crunch and can't remember the name of the bigger one.

John please get the opposing side as well on YouTube. Not me. I do not have the figure for anything visual.

Tuesday 19 May

Looking at the certificate I received today, I have been awarded City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business. I am not sure it was worth the time.

The truth is I have not had a chance to use my new found skills. I know where to look now to delegate this function. I will.

A more recent sole trader client is proving to be time-consuming. The number of queries from her, do not match our fees. On that note, I am thinking about increasing our fees now. From my perspective, the economy is up now.

I could not do a full day’s work today. I had workmen doing some work in my flat. By the time I got to the office it was about 12 pm.

Monday 18 May

Monday, Monday, Monday. It was a tough day.

The increase in our client level has resulted in an increase in client queries. We strive to respond to all client queries in under three hours, if not, at least the same the day. Where a query requires research, we let the clients know that we need to dig further before we can provide a response.

We are living in a digital age where the pace of living means responding the next day is considered late.

Thanks to the response to my Any Answers post, I will not meet with a potential client who is opening a small supermarket. That is not the direction I would like the practice to take. I think it would consume a fair amount of practice’s time. It would hold back the growth of the practice.

Another potential client query I had was to look review a business plan. If the business goes ahead, to be their accountant. This sounds intereting. I intend to meet the client.
