Friday 29 May

TGI Friday. I had a good day. I am coping well without my employee. The is because (please allow me to brag a little) of the efficient systems that I set up from day 1. Of course, there is still room for improvement.

I had a good meeting with a potential client this morning. I hope she signs on with us. I think she will.

I had another meeting at 12:30 pm after my first meeting this morning. I had a two-hour gap between meetings. Aren’t bigger screen mobile phones great? My two hours in Café Nero were spent well with a large cappuccino and responding to client emails. Bigger screen made this so much easier. The costs of the mobile paid for itself today.

I had lunch with another practitioner. It was good exchange of views session. We talked about the whether we should  merge. We are both uncertain whether this would be right. Maybe I am too independent to merge? Maybe he is too independent as well? We are both of a similar age. I think both parties need to think.

Thursday 28 May

It was another fewer client emails day. It felt strange.

I forced myself to chase one of the potential clients I mentioned yesterday. She wants to speak to one of my existing clients for feedback. This is a first for me. I got okay from one of my clients and passed her details to the potential client. It is getting tough!

If I had not called the potential client, maybe, I would have missed out on this business? It is important to be an ethical salesman for growth. The worst that would happen is a no. I need to remember this. Rejection is okay!

I am meeting another potential client in Café Nero first thing tomorrow. I am pleased with the rate of potential client queries. I hope it stays at the same level or improves. On undeniable fact is that I can no longer charge the fees I used to 2 years ago. Getting the business is getting more difficult. Maybe it is just me?

I have not called the potential client who thought our fees were too much. I am sure he has found someone cheaper. There always is.

I feel very tired today. An early night should address this.

Wednesday 27 May

Why just two client emails today? Is it because it is half-term? Is it half term? I do not know since I don’t have children.

As you know, one of the advantages of being self-employed is the flexibility it gives you. I did put in some hours yesterday evening. This was to allow me time to take my hardly used car for MOT this morning. It has only done 25000 miles in 15 years. I bought it new in 2000.

What is odd is that only today, the electronics in the car went wrong. The indicators stopped working and all the lights on the dashboard went on. I have left the car with the garage. They will let me know how much it will cost tomorrow. I am sure with the amount I will have to pay, I could buy a really good bicycle.

I have not mentioned so far, that my intern works three days a week. She has a job for the rest of the week. I was on my own in the office. It was heaven! I got to the office at 12.45pm.

The potential client I mentioned yesterday signed the engagement letter. There is no word from two potential clients I spoke to yesterday. I did not chase them. I should.

The click rate on my WordPress blog went up. People are looking at the pictures my kitchen. Why such interest in my kitchen? Here is the link, you need to click each picture to see everything in detail http://firsttab.co.uk/2014/12/12/my-week-need-to-see-wood-for-the-trees/

Tuesday 26 May

It was the first day without my employee. It was a tough day! Bear in mind the first working day of the tends to be the busiest day of the week.

Our pavement signage was delivered yesterday. It looks very good! Whether it will bring us additional business remains to be seen.

I had two potential client calls. With one of them I was on the phone for 52 mins. I am not sure if she will become our client. The second potential client was quibbling over fees. I think our fees are competitive. I cannot go any lower. I have done in the past. I am still regretting those decisions.

One of the potential clients has not signed our engagement letter. I wonder if he has changed his mind. I will chase him up tomorrow.

A large portion of my time was spent on the day to day matters. This included responding to client queries and training my intern.

I hope my week gets better from here.

Pavement signage

You need an advert on the main road. You will get a lot more people seeing it than down a cul de sac.

Visitors
We have new visitors to the office block on a regular basis. The signage is meant for these people.

Agreed our office block is located on a quite road.

Pesky clients

It must be terribly frustrating for you having to deal with pesky clients and their annoying queries when you have so much more important matters to attend to.

And the gall of that intern demanding to be trained. Ingrate wretch - after you waived the requirement she brings her own calculator & copy of Tolley's too.

@Roland195

It's more frustrating for the clients who have no idea who First Tab is.

You are clearly an intelligent person to be able to come up with a solution to such a complex problem.
