Thursday 19 March

I chased more recent clients who did not get round to setting up Direct Debit through Go Cardless. Our clients are good. When reminders are sent, they act on them.

I am pleased with a fantastic response on Staff taking clients thread It is one of my concerns. The thread has great suggestions on how to mitigate the risks. I think the risk is part and parcel of running a business.

One potential client just turned up at our office without an appointment. He was not for us. Records were too messy and it would take long to sort out. Another potential client turned up at my home address. Again no appointment. I also use my home address as my business address.  I started from home. Some clients I took on earlier in my early days still prefer to see home.

The potential client who turned up at my home address called me saying he is waiting outside! He could not come to our office since it would be too far for him.I asked him to find someone local to him.

Oh yes, got my results for social media marketing course, I passed. It is some NVQ qualification. Don't need it but it feels good.

Overall, an okayish day.

Wednesday 18 March

I tried to post today's update on My Week blog page. I was not able to since https://www.mollom.com picked me up as a spam post and blocked my update. Hence a separate blog page. I have reported the spam error to Mollom.

I was not taken in by the Budget fever. I never am. It takes time to digest the information. Further, information that is relevant to my clients does not amount to that much.

As regards to digital system. I do not have enough information to be concerned. My experience is clients prefer an accountant to handle their tax affairs for the comfort factor. There will always be a need for accountants.

I spent fair amount of work time (had to) reading up on surgical weight loss options. They do require life style changes. May be I can do this without going for surgery?

I decided to give myself till September 2015 to make the life style changes and lose some of the weight. I cancelled my Saturday appointment with the consultant.

I will look at ways I can get home earlier. After checking on my mother, by the time I get home it is normally 9.30 pm. I am exhausted by that time. In the morning, I rush off to get to the office.

With Fridays off now, it is giving me the space to think about aspects outside work.

Well Done

Well done on getting yout growth voucher. i also applied for one for marketing but was rejected as apperently they are issued on a random basis. I was really quite annoyed as I never seem to get any help or support, certianly get nothing for free ever.

Voucher

Hi Glennzy, I am sorry to hear you did not get the Growth Voucher. As you say it is on a random basis. Can you apply again? Probably not.

Believe me, it is rare that I am lucky with anything. It been a long time since luck came to my side.

Changing habits

Given that you need to make lifestyle changes to lose weight and that involves either creating new habits or ditching old ones then you might want to look at (or listen to - it's available on audiobook) Gretchen Rubin's new book 'Better than before: mastering the habits of our everyday lives'. The part I've read so far involves looking at the sort of person you are and matching your habits to it i.e. if you're the sort of person who does the opposite of what people tell you (yes, that is a type and not a personal observation - it's called being a Rebeller) then it's no good getting people to remind you to go to the gym because then you won't on principle (though if you got people to say 'FT, you know you're too lazy to go to the gym' then you might to spite them - same principle, different angle). And if you feel obliged to do things because you've agreed it with others (but won't do things for yourself) then your best habits will be the sort that involve you making an obligation to others i.e. agreeing to go running twice a week with a friend - you'll do it because you won't want to let them down.

All this advice and I won't charge you anything!

Book

Thanks Flash. Sounds like a good book for me. I have 6 unused audio book credits through audible.

I just checked the book is available  through Audible. I will download it now.

I will post my thoughts on the  book  and whether  as a result my mindset has changed.
