I never enjoy going back to work after a holiday but this time it seems to be worse than usual. On top of the post holiday blues is the ever increasing workload.
Whilst on holiday I received three new business enquiries in less than a week, I’ll follow these up, mind you I’m become more selective as my spare capacity diminishes/disappears. Anything which falls into the too hard/too unusual/take too much time category will be politely declined – always difficult when it’s a referral. The rest will be welcomed with open arms (and a sigh).
Anyway, sitting down at my desk yesterday and today I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed by the work that needs doing. I did around 1 week’s worth of work in August – the bare minimum really – payrolls, vat returns a few other bits and pieces so I was expecting a lot to do when I got back.
September and October are from experience very busy months for me, a combination of the holiday backlog and certain sets of accounts which always end up being done in this period. It get me prepared for the busy winter months - don’t mind that – better than working in the summer.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the summer break (and the Ashes victory – hurray!!) but this time of year is always painful.
Next year will be no different, in fact I’m hoping to take even more of a break next July/August – just need to pull my finger out between now and then!

Lifestyle business

That's exactly how I feel! I guess that's what a "lifestyle" business means. The determining factor is "Does this work fit in with my lifestyle?".
Back to school time is always difficult - whatever age we are, but, like January it is also a nice clean sheet and time for resolutions.
ps: What's the significance of the train? Re-branding like Google?
Nothing wrong with that
@RL - nothing wrong with a lifestyle business despite what 'business coaches' may tell you.
@Tom - its all in the name, will probably choose a pub next time.
I see
All becomes clear...
Good to know that I'm not the only one dreading this month! Although I've got the added stress of what to do for my daughters birthday.
