The tax man cometh - lock up your mansions

So , after all the hype and speculation George Osborne has craftily pitched the mansion tax so as not to bankrupt retired colonels and closed a loophole at the same time. I doubt anybody with enough dough to pay £2m for a  " des res " will have too much trouble finding the extra 2% over the current rate . The striking thing about the budget was that the chanceller appeared to put the national interest above poilitical expediency but perhaps that's the whole idea - make people think he really cares about them and he will be more popular , in spite of making non-populiat moves . Perhaps the psephologists and psychologists can comment .....
