As we’re now entrenched in the 2015-16 football season, let's drop in and see how our AccountingWEB members are performing in the Fantasy football league.
After Brendan Rodgers’ uncertain tactics led Liverpool to a lacklustre draw in the Merseyside derby at Everton, Rodgers became the first Premiership managerial casualty of the season.
Liverpool drafted in Jurgen Klopp as Rodgers replacement. However, Liverpool’s powers that be should have scouted the AccountingWEB’s fantasy football league. Mark Thompson’s ‘Because it matas’ has racked up a mighty 477 points.
Thompson’s success is hardly surprising when you consider he has enlisted Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero. The City star striker netted five goals past Newcastle’s suffering keeper in the weekend’s thrashing.
But Thompson’s good fortunes are set to turn sour with the news that Sergio Aguero has suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Agentina. Aguero was reportedly in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch, but his weeping was nothing compared to the waterfall of tears Thompson must had bawled upon hearing the news.
Not only could this scupper Thompson’s championship aspirations but Manchester City’s Premiership winning dreams could be in tatters.
Also pay a thought for the managers tumbling to the bottom of the table. Jose Mourinho will be able to empathise with Rodgers. Chelsea has sunk to the nether region of the Premiership, which is their worst start in 37 years. The special one is lingering just out of the relegation zone. Someone who will be able to know then special one’s anguish is Stephen Kendrew, whose Leeds United reserves are faring worse than their beleaguered first team namesake. Kendrew has the unfortunate accolade of propping up the table with 248 points.
