What is that X factor?

Whilst I have been working away over the past few days the thought that has been on my mind for some time kept coming up –why is it some accountancy practices are expanding at such a rapid rate? They face the same problems as I do, yet they have expanded their business. What is it about them? More importantly why am I not like them?

On observing successful people one thing I have noticed about them is they are highly action orientated. They don’t just think and talk. They do as well. They get out of their comfort zone and get going. “Dirtier” the tasks the quicker they get it done so they can move on with their lives. With me I think, I talk and come up with a brilliant excuse to do it later. That later is always replaced with just do not have the time. At the same time the task(s) in question is always on my mind and I am not happy with myself for not taking action. In other words I am my own worst enemy.

Some say it is never too late to change. My response to that is as I get older the benefit of changing extend over a shorter period of time. Change I must, since my current income level does not provide me with the lifestyle that I am accustomed to and the thought of going back to being an employee – no way! I rather change my lifestyle.

By the way I am so pleased that I started on my “dirty” tasks this week. Even though I just did not want to tackle these tasks. Thank you all for your comments on my previous blog on this subject.

Are you doer? Do you agree with me that the X factor is taking action on your plans? Getting out of your comfort zone?

Trying various methods

I think it's best to try various ways of marketing to see what suits you.

I wouldn't suggest any marketing until you can deal with the work you have now.

I'm with Peter

With the greatest of respect, it seems like at times your current work load is too much to get through so fast growth is not something I would recommend at this time.  It might be a better idea to look to grow your practice with better quality clients and ditch some of the lower grade clients which gives you the best of both worlds.
