We advertised for a new employee this week.

OK, it was as a cleaner but I was surprised at the feedback. Half the applicants were over 60.

What's happening in our economy when that's the case? I thought people were desperate for work - and yet it seems those in supposed old age are the keenest to apply.

Of course by itself it doesn't prove anything - and cleaning has always been odd work - but this surprised me. I sort of expected more young people desperate to do anything - and once with a foot in the door with a chance to impress. But I'm obviously wrong on that score.

And I'm told it was one of the over 60s who got it.

But are you paying them market rate?

As in the same as all other employees plus large bonuses?! ;)
