September 8 - AM's off and her deputy came in to see me this morning looking worried.

She had discovered that one of our customers has been over-billed against the contract price for almost two years. It's not a massive amount each time. but over two years it adds up to quite a sum.

September 6 – I enjoyed that holiday. I wasn’t rung once. I saw not reason to ring. When I got back all seemed OK. Except I’d been scheduled for far too many meetings and so it’s been manic.

August 25 - The other half of the summer holiday starts tomorrow.

Major debriefs today even though this is only a few days off.

I bounced the idea of what a strategy might be around yesterday evening with AM.

She was at our house for supper - the marital break up seems to be certain. She seems to be stoical. I confess I find it gutting for her.

August 22 – The CEOs role is a weird one. I’ve spent more of my life observing it than doing it. And I’m glad I’ve had the chance to try it in a place big enough to justify the title. But what is it really about?

We advertised for a new employee this week. 

OK, it was as a cleaner but I was surprised at the feedback. Half the applicants were over 60.

I got sent an email today which said:

August 11 - Dear diary, what a week it's been.

Customers woke up realising they might need more services.

We weren't always best placed to reach them. Some obstacles got in the way.

What do you do when you know you have staff in North London tonight as rioting is being reported?

I'll tel you what I did. I told them all to get the **** out of there as fast as they could.

Sorry customers - but right now my staff's safety comes first.

August 5 - Three years ago the global financial crisis cost me the opportunity to but this company.

We've survived since then, but I won't pretend it hasn't been tough.

Now it looks like we're having another one.
