Price is no longer primary driver for taking to the cloud

Why do companies take to the cloud? It might surprise to you learn that cost is no longer the primary driver for adopting cloud computing.
 
New research from the Cloud Industry Forum found that 53% of respondents cited flexibility as their main driver for moving to cloud services. In previous years, organisations looked to cloud computing as a way of reducing costs, but only 16% of respondents in the latest survey said price was the driving force behind their decision.
 
Of the 450 organisations surveyed, 48% said they used some form of cloud computing. Backup, disaster recovery, email, storage and web hosting are still the main cloud services in use.
 
Reassuringly, 85% of those who are already making use of cloud services plan to increase usage over the next 12 months. However, 23% do not think it’s safe to host their client and third party data on the cloud.
 
One of the most worrying statistics to come out of this survey is that 54% of businesses do not plan to adopt the cloud and 52% would not use the cloud to host accounts or financial data.
