My IT man did not know what hit him
I should have been preparing for the board meeting on Thursday today, but le me be honest: I think it will go OK. So I didn't.
Instead I had our IT chap (appointed, some might recall, because he's a bit of a geek) in my office much of the day.
I told him I want to learn more. He was amazed.
We looked at the Wiki. I was unfair the other day. For customer commubnication it is working really well. It is also being used a lot for technical data, and all manuals and updates are on there. I've probably under appreciated just how effective this is.
But equally, it's not a blog.
Nor is it Twitter. I tried that. Yuck! Not for me. Don't worry - search as you might you won't find my entries. And I doubt I'm going back. I really don't think I'll get my head round 140 characters - and am not sure I want to. And it's not private.
But at least I know.
So we looked at blogs. Our wiki has not got one built in, although i know some do. That seems like a shame, but I'm not sure. The IT chap has his head round Wordpress - new to me, but clearly not to him, and he showed me how that is extraordinarily flexible - but at the front end just a blog. And capable of being private too, if we want.
I liked it. After a couple of hours I was familiar with it. We'd even created (and deleted) a blog or two.
I don't know it will do all we want - but he's going to look at it for me.
I remain quite excited.
