This blog is about all matters business and personal of a sole practitioner. I have a practice with one member of staff.
Dear god, are you there?
Existence of god has been a big question mark on my mind since my teenage years. I have real difficulty with this one since I was brought up in an environment where religion was drummed into me. I was not allowed to question my religion.
In my thinking moments I ask to myself, who made god? Did she just appear? More importantly there are such important areas where there is complete lack of involvement of god? These questions are raised by most people, I am sure.
• Children being abused and starved
• Famine
• Wars
• Large scale loss of life due to natural disasters
• Unfairness of life in general. Your outcome is decided through accident of birth. You can work very hard to change this.
How can any god just let all this just pass by? She is all knowing!
Religion divides people rather than bring them together. Think of number of killings that could have been avoided without religion.
My stance
If I am true to myself I am a Humanist. Yet, I am left with a deep fear for not believing in the divine one. What if there is a god? I have noticed in my absolute worst times, I found myself praying to a god to make it better.
So I am a Humanist when everything is normal in my life. I start praying (very rare) when I am at the lowest of the low. Further, when it comes to my death I would like my funeral to be in accordance to the religion I was brought up with. I just want to cover myself just in case there is a god!
.
People often only look to God when they are in times of trouble when in actual fact He is always there.
I'm a Christian, I don't pretend to have answers for the tragic things that happen in this world. However I know that God does amazing things, He is divine so therefore I don't really have a leg to stand on in questioning Him. There is a bit at the end of the book of Job which shows this and the whole of and conclusion of the book of Ecclesiastes has a similar summary. Or for something a bit more modern, this might be helpful...
Keen to hear what you think...
Purpose of life
FirstTab lists the questions raised by many people. If life is looked at in isolation these questions are, I believe, impossible to answer. However, looked at in the context of a life in Heaven before this life and a life to come, this life is more of a training period. Some lives are tragically cut short to the great sadness of those who live. Perhaps these people did not need to spend a long time on this earth to achieve the "training" required.
As with any subject, you need to read the arguments to learn abo
I recommend The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. He systematically demolishes the arguments for the existence of a god with great intellectual rigour.
Allah says in the Quran ...
And they say, .There is no life but our worldly life. We die and live, and nothing destroys us except time.. They have no knowledge about that; they do nothing but make conjectures. [45:25] When Our verses are recited to them in all their clarity, their argument is none but that they say, .Bring our fathers, if you are truthful.. [45:26] Say, .Allah gives you life, then makes you die, then He will assemble you on the Day of Judgement in which there is no doubt, but most of the people do not know.[45:27] To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. The day the Hour will take place, it will be the day in which the adherents of falsehood shall lose, [45:28] and you will see every community kneeling down. Every community will be called to its book (of record). Today you will be recompensed for what you used to do. [45:29] This is Our book that speaks against you with truth. We used to get recorded all that you used to do.[45:30] Then, as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them to His mercy. That is indeed the achievement, visible to all. [45:31] And as to those who disbelieved, (it will be said to them,) .Had My verses not been recited to you? But you showed arrogance, and you were a guilty people; and when it was said to you that Allah‘s promise is true and there is no doubt in the (arrival of the) Hour (ie Day of Judgement), you used to say, We do not know what the Hour is. We do not think (about it) but as an assumption, and we are not sure.‘. [45:33] And revealed to them will be the evils of what they did, and encircled they will be by what they used to ridicule. [45:34] It will be said, .Today We will forget you, as you forgot facing this your day, and your abode is the Fire, and for you thereare no helpers at all. [45:35] That is because you took Allah‘s verses as a laughing stock, and the worldly life deceived you.. So today they will neither be brought out of it, nor will they be asked to repent. [45:36] So, to Allah belongs all praise, who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the worlds. [45:37] And to Him belongs majesty in the heavens and the earth. And He is the Mightythe Wise.

If it helps you
If it helps you and harms no-one else then I, for one, would make no criticism of you for an 'occasional' belief in God. But shouldn't it be a source of hope rather than fear?
