Look to the future now...

With the days counting down to Christmas you may have noticed we're been putting up the decorations and making our final preparations for the holiday period on AccountingWEB.co.uk:

Like those of you hacking your way through the Self Assessment jungle, I’ll be at my desk for much of the holiday period to make sure everything runs smoothly as we head into January’s frenzy. AccountingWEB will be there for you throughout the busy tax season, monitoring any glitches that crop up with HMRC’s online systems and providing a safety valve if you’d like some light relief or somewhere to go and share a moan with fellow sufferers of SAS (Self Assessment Syndrome).

If you enjoy taking a step back and reviewing the past year during the holiday period there are plenty of threads on AccountingWEB.co.uk to stimulate your reminiscences, including:

The big event for AccountingWEB in 2009 was our migration to a new content management system. Nobody likes change and the redesign was not met with universal acclaim (see our AccountingWEB feedback discussion group if you want to replay that drama). But that discussion group represents one of the new initiatives made possible by our new platform.

We now have the ability to create separate forums for all manner of special interest groups within the community. Already, like-minded members are sharing their thoughts on topics including:

Is there a discussion group you’d like to start? Then let us know.

We are now also hosting a blog page, with contributions from a wide range of personalities including our CEO and Practitioner diarists, Simon Sweetman, Steve Pipe, Finola McManus, Richard Messik and the AccountingWEB editorial team. Our deep thanks to all of you who have got involved and added something new to the site in 2009.

The whole point of our overhaul was to open up the underlying structure and give you, our members, more opportunities to shape the content on AccountingWEB. As it has always been, AccountingWEB is your community. Keep in touch and let us know what you like and dislike about the site. We’ll try our utmost to deliver an even more compelling professional resource in 2010.
