Stories which are sometimes funny, sometimes weird, but always entertaining - and just right for bedtime. There might be an underlying business purpose from time to time as well, but you'll have to decide that for yourself.
Are You Missing One of Your Senses?
How many senses do you have? Did you say 5 or maybe 6? Physiologists say there are at least 8!
I have been reading 'The Element' by Ken Robinson and he makes the above point that sometimes we accept a version of the truth and as a consequence never examine an area again.
Take our senses. In answer to the above question, if you were thinking the traditional five (sight, touch, hearing, smell, taste) and maybe the sixth (instinct / intuition) then you would be missing an additional three. These are a sense of balance, sense of temperature and a sense of bodily spatial awareness.
It made me think. Why do we accept these commonly understood 'facts' without thinking? In some ways, it is a story that we have accepted then don't consider any further.
The implications in business and for your practice are that there may be 'understood' norms which you are not testing and as a consequence you are missing areas of opportunity. What metaphors or stories are you accepting about your clients and practice that might not be true? Is there more to what you are doing than you would normally assume?
