The Dragon in the Ocean

Once upon a time there was a dragon caught in the Ocean. This caused a real problem for the villagers as his cries were pitiful and rang out through the night and day. Also, the dragon was responsible for attacking their village but, equally, his magic was responsible for many of the miracles that sometimes occurred. What were they to do? They needed the dragon, but also feared him greatly.

The lamenting cries carried on and the villagers decided to help. They all got the biggest rope they could and rowing out in boats managed to tie one end around the dragon. Once they took the other end to the beach they wrapped it around their bodies and pulled as hard as they could. The dragon strained and pushed, and finally with a flap of his wings was free!

At the same time the villagers fell over and became entwined in the rope and couldn't get free. They could only watch helplessly as the dragon flew over to them and bared his teeth.

And no one ever saw them again.
