Accountancy - the choice of the gods

That's the trouble with reading a newspaper, something which unfortunately I rarely get the chance to do. You learn things you never realised you needed to know!

The opportunity arose last week while making one of my rare visits to London. As usual I picked up a copy of the Metro newspaper at the tube station and made this week's startling discovery.

Apparently, accountancy is what gods - or goddesses in this case - chose to do when they retire from doing whatever it is that they do. Chanira Bajracharya, the so-called Nepalese "living goddess" or Kumari of Patan, is retiring from the deity and wants to study accounting and go into banking! Doesn't sound like a natural career path for an ex-goddess, but perhaps bringing a little godliness into the banking sector might not be a bad thing!

Elsewhere I read that Chanira only goes out 18 times a year and has no friends of her own age. Sounds like an ideal background for an accountant then.

The original article is on the Metro website.

The choice of the Gods? - Maybe not in all cases!

Interesting article - but never forget the guy who looked after the finances for Jesus was none other than Judas Iscariot! Not exactly the best advert for any profession.
