All talk but no dialogue

Am I the only one on the receiving end of some odd communications these days?

I am talking about exchanges of emails that completely fail to communicate anything. I was beginning to think perhaps my powers of communication were leaving me. Then I had a thought.

Most of the clients with whom I have this problem are younger, mobile types - so they are probably emailing me from a mobile device, almost certainly an iPhone in most cases. These small screens make it hard to see the whole thread of a conversation, so the temptation must be to simply reply to the first line of an email, or maybe just respond to the title, without reading the whole email or conversation. As a result I end up with random email messages that completely ignore most of my original message, or just respond to one of half a dozen points. I then have to email again asking for more information and the client gets shirty because they can't understand what the problem is.

Very frustrating. The moral of the story is probably that I need to phone rather than email these clients. If I email them I need to get to the point much quicker, and repeat the key points in each new email rather than assuming they will scroll down and re-read earlier emails - assuming that is that all mobile email readers even display them. Otherwise if it's just a quick one-liner I might as well text them!
