Life is tough on the front line of accountancy. For more than five years, our intrepid correspondent has been bringing us news and views from a typical West Country practice.
Corporation Tax doesn't have to be taxing - does it?
Why does HMRC make such a meal of Corporation Tax refunds?
Once again I have had to phone Merthyr several times before anyone will action a CT refund resulting from a loss carry back claim. As usual we included a full computation of the revised prior year, calculated the repayment due and specified it in the covering letter when we submitted the later year's accounts and CT600. And once again they did exactly nothing for the best part of three months until we decided to start phoning them on a weekly basis.
What's the point of offering an extended loss carry back - presumably to help out struggling companies - if the system can't handle the repayments?

Software
We always have this issue as well.
Do you overwrite prior years online or do you attach pages to the new AP submission - neither seem to work!
It would have been nice too if our software company did not treat the £50k loss carry back as a 'temporary measure' and so only offer work-rounds (overrides etc etc.)
