Happy New Year!

Let me start 2010 by wishing a Happy New Year to fellow practitioners.

As usual the new year has started as something of an anti-climax, principally because we have been closed since Christmas Eve and everything was exactly how I left it when I arrived this morning. In addition my newly-acquired Windows smartphone has been receiving my emails over the Christmas/New Year break so there were no surprises waiting in my Inbox when I logged on.

January promises to be the usual last minute panic to finish the 2009 tax returns and file the remaining 31/3/09 company accounts. Nothing new there.

For those who like to compare notes, as of today we have 347 tax returns showing as not submitted, according to our software. That may well include a few lost clients or cases where no return is required, but I would expect there to be at least 300 real missing returns. 20 working days left, that makes 15 returns a day!

out of how many?

I would love to compare figures!

We have around 120 to complete out of a total of 460 approximately. That makes it almost 25%!

Much of those are director returns so they should be a breeze, but we have about 30 more than this time last year.

What percentage of returns do others have outstanding?
