Life is tough on the front line of accountancy. For more than five years, our intrepid correspondent has been bringing us news and views from a typical West Country practice.
Old maybe, but not past it!
We knew this all along, but now scientists have confirmed it: older staff are more productive than their younger colleagues!
So we may be older and a bit slower, but we make up for it with experience, a greater ability to work in teams, and apparently we're also better at coping when things go wrong.
The researchers claim that older workers may make more errors - hmm, not sure about that - but the good news is that we hardly make any severe errors! Not sure what that means or how it translates into the professional environment, but it sounds like a sound endorsement of the abolition of a compulsory retirement age. Well, that and the derisory annuity rates available to would-be pensioners at the moment!
The Daily Mail reported the research and has some of the detail. But let's face it, those of us of a certain age knew this all along.
