HMRC says sorry for continued 64-8 delays

The current turnaround time for forms 64-8 sent to the new central processing team at Longbenton is 17 days, Revenue and Customs has announced.

HMRC said in a statement on its website that the Central Agent Authorisation Team (CAAT) "has had some teething troubles, mainly because it is receiving more 64-8s than was originally forecast".

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused to you and your clients," HMRC said. Some TaxZone readers have reported longer delays.

In March the ICAEW's Tax Faculty welcomed the CAAT, developed in consultation with the Working Together professional bodies.

The team handles all forms 64-8 except those for corporation tax and trusts, and enters the relevant agent / client relationship on the appropriate IT systems.
