DSG, the parent company of electrical retailers Currys and Dixons, says it has uncovered a "significant fraud operation" in one of its French warehouses. Matt Henkes reports.
The firm said that French police were investigating the allegation, and several warehouse employees have been arrested. A company spokesman described the fraud as "a very sophisticated operation".
The warehouse concerned is operated by Fotovista, a technology retailer acquired by DSG around 18 months ago. It is the group's main business in France.
Reports have suggested that the company may have lost up to £8m worth of electrical goods, a loss that would wipe out the £8m profit that was expected to come from the group's new business division.
However, the firm said that the effects are not expected to reach further than the end of this financial year. "Management has reacted promptly to this isolated incident, and is confident that the immediate issues have been resolved," it said.
