Taxman to head Serious Fraud Office

The Attorney General, Baroness Scotland QC, has announced a replacement for Robert Wardle, the outgoing director of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). His successor will be barrister Robert Alderman, currently director of the national teams and special civil investigations at HMRC.

At present Alderman manages a team of 3,000 investigative staff, and prior to that he was director of the Special Compliance Office, but despite all this he has managed to keep a very low profile over the years.

I dont know anything about him, said Rosalind Wright, a former director of the Serious Fraud Office, but thats not unusual for tax investigators. They do tend to avoid the limelight.
