New research indicates that the anticipated transfer of responsibilities from financial advisers to accountants and payroll as auto enrolment intermediaries is happening far slower than anticip


The number of businesses fined for not complying with auto enrolment pension rules surged between October and the end of December last year.


The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised concern about the burden on small businesses as the automatic enrolment programme picks up pace.


The big auto enrolment story for 2016 is that around 500,000 small and medium-sized businesses will reach their staging date and start the continual payroll process of managing automatic enrolm

The vast majority of small employers have yet to reach their staging date; however nearly six million staff have already been put into a pension scheme by the UK’s large and medium employers.

2016 will present many opportunities for professional service providers as more and more employers start to stage for their automatic enrolment duties and obligations, says Mike Foster.


Self assessment season will soon be in full swing and many accountants’ clients will be staging for auto enrolment for the first time in January.
