I thought HMRC had killed off Hector the Inspector: the "friendly" tax inspector who on the introduction of Self Assessment was printed on dividend vouchers etc along with "KEEP IT". I hadn't seen the logo for years until today when I discovered a farming co-operative in Wales still using it on their 2015-16 dividend vouchers. I wonder if he will be brought out of retirement for MTD.

Hello kevinringer

RIP Hector.

HMRC killed Hector because he was "too white, too male and too middle aged to represent the Revenue".

I liked Hector, I think he should be reborn (Alec Guinness voice made him). Maybe give him a chocolate colour skin. Then too white, too male and too middle aged may have issues.

Maybe have Hector in different skin tones with different accents. Then women will be offended. Okay, have Judie Dench version of Hector in different skin tones.

Trying to appeal to the masses is not an easy task for PR section of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

Hector would now have to be a transgender bi-curious Muslim in a wheelchair to tick all the boxes today

I heard that HMRC didn't realise until the last minute that the word "hector" has unfortunate connotations, but it was too late to pull the plug. They were probably glad to get rid of him.

We had a sign outside our office back in the day with Hector, local Hmrc office complained and we told them it was his brother Horace, they took it in good humour, unfortunately the joke was on us when people kept calling in for free tax advice
