Different Copies of Sage
Hi everyone, hope there is a Sage guru out there that can help with a query I have.
I have a client who bought Sage 50 Accounts 2010 and which I have loaded on my machine and have been doing his accounts.
I have just bought Sage 50 Accounts 2011, five user licence, which I am going to use for other clients. When I try to install my five user licence software, it seems to want to overwrite the 2010 and I obviously need to keep these separate. I thought I would rename the "Sage" folder to "Sage 2010" but I don't know how to get the 2010 software to look at that folder for that data.
I have not installed the 2011 software yet as I hope someone can help as I don't want to use up one of my licenced copies, when I have 2010 already bought and paid for!!
Many thanks for reading and helping
Different Copies
When you install v2011, select the Custom Install option - this will allow you to install as a separate version rather than upgrading the v2010 installation.

Re: Different Copies of Sage
OK this is easy, I have every version from V11 to V18 on this PC and they all work seperatly.
John is quite right in that you have to choose the 'Custom' install, you will then be presented with the option to change the directory into which it is installed.
Use the 'Browse' button and at the top of the box that comes up you will see C:\Program Files\Sage etc
Simply put '2011' after the word Sage, and this will then install the software into a seperate folder in Program Files to the V2010
Now hit Next and again add '2011' after the word Sage and this will create a seperate folder of icons on your start/programs menu
Sage itself will automatically create a seperate directory for the data under Documents & Settings/All Users/Application Data/Sage - in there you will find 2 folders after this install 2010 and 2011 showing that the 2 versions are seperate
I suggest you rename the original Sage folder back to just Sage so your v2010 can still find it and everything will work perfectly.
Any problems email witch@witch-queen.com and I will reply with my phone number

Different versions of Sage 50
Great explanation from Karen above.
Just as an aside, if you regularly deal with client data from different versions of Sage 50, the following Sage 50 add-on should prove to be invaluable to keep track of all of your client data whilst keeping them in the separate versions : http://bit.ly/eB8Y1l

Re: Different versions of Sage 50
I just had a look at your site.
Don't think I will bother when it is so easy to install different versions as explained above. Especially not for £199
Even more so when the new version 2012 will offer the facility to restore different versions and backup in the older version format too.
There won't be a need to have all these different versions anymore
