Award for most inappropriate musical backing track

Don't you just hate it when advertisers or producers pick up on a bite from a song and use it to accompany a scene/advert etc, when in fact if they actually listened to the track they would realise it is totally inappropriate!

My starter for 10 is the 02 advert featuring "Little Boxes", these people must be so far up themselves they just don't get it!

Don't know about adverts, but...

Many years ago I used to work in the bar of a hotel that had regular weddings. I lost count of how many couples had "band of gold" as their first dance! What a way to start a marriage!

Many years!

That must have been many years ago indeed!  These days Adele's "Someone like you" is very popular, but likewise has entirely inappropriate lyrics about an ex-boyfriend who has moved on....

At a wedding.

And a kids TV program had, as the music for its trailer, 'Everyone's at it' by Lily Allen.  Which is about how everyone is on drugs...

Why is that not appropriate for a wedding? ;-)

... I really love songs that are not what they seem, ones that sound happy and upbeat for instance, but when you listen carefully you realise they are anything but.

This example is actually about Anne Frank!

and there I thought I had listened to an advert which actually made sense!!

Starting out with Little Boxes and then with new lyrics moving away to thought and change so that no one was the same made perfect sense to me

... no one is truly unique, even if we are all different we are bound together by that simple commonality - don't you just love paradoxes and conundra?

So as a result I have no idea what this thread is about and have nothing to add. I do however manage to annoy my family with my apparant insane actions in this regard, so it's not  a total loss.

I've done this before on occasion, but you really ought to get Sky+ and then series link absolutely everything you watch.  Then stop watching and live TV, and watch it all on playback, therefore enabling fast forward of the advert breaks. It's brilliant and makes previously unwatchable ITV programmes watchable again.

Where did you hear that?  I don't think it's true!  I don't think REM have ever said what the song was meant to mean, although the assumption is that it's ironic.

... it was a political comment based on a Chinese propaganda poster released after the Tiananmen Square uprising to gloss over the fact the Chinese government clamped down on student demonstrators, killing hundreds of them.
